Community Tasting Notes 5

January 7, 2018 - Winorama: A winter in Wineland II; 1/6/2018-1/14/2018 (Portland, Eureka, Napa): Aged very well. More in the funk format. It's very different than the other wines in that Antica Terra tasting which were running mostly off of the lovely bright fruits. This is all of the Northern Rhone meat and brine and still very tasty and quite fun to get to try.

August 6, 2009 - (Sans Soufre.) A nice surprise, since the last time it was so primary you could fairly call it a fruit bomb. Now it is showing some nice tertiary stuff and really exhibiting its meaty Cornas soul. It's also showing a thick sheath of tannin which was totally subsumed by the fruit last time - a slight impediment to its drinkability but the wine is so interesting you can keep coming back to it anyway. In addition to the tannin its also structured with a tart acidity that gives it a very fresh sensation notwithstanding the tertiary flavors.

January 17, 2008 - Apparently the Sans Souffre bottling though no indication of that on the label. Young stuff. Fruity. That's it for now.

April 18, 2007 - Older Rhone Dinner (Custom House): Apparently a very rare Cornas with only about 25 cases/year production - thanks again to Chris K. for bringing it. Deep black opaque black/red color. Unreal nose of black pepper and menthol notes. Unique huge black fruit and menthol on the palate with firm structured coffee finish. Really started to open up and bloom after substantial time in glass, developing deeper white pepper notes.
