March 23, 2024 - 4th Saturday Brown Bagger (J&L's): Blind. Mature color, almost brown around the meniscus. Aromas of fig paste, loam and herbs- immediately I knew this was one of our two old Chilean wines. Soft tannins, with flavors of sour red berry fruit, dried herbs and mocha. The fruit loses the sour edge through the finish. Pleasant, but clearly on the downside.

Our final bottle, double decanted off its sediment 1.25 hours earlier. When first decanted, this smelled wonderful and we figured it would be the better of the two that we opened, so it was a bit disappointing that it didn't hold up long enough. I suspect this is just one of those bottles, which happens as they age. If we had more in the cellar, I'd definitely plan on drinking over the next year or two.

January 23, 2023 - Earthy dark fruit with plum and currants and nice minerality

December 24, 2022 - Youthful medium to medium deep ruby. Cassis nose. Ready to go, but no rush, there is still good structure here. Palate is juicy, but leans more toward the Old World than the New. Lovely wine, balanced and delicious.

October 8, 2021 - Very deep ruby color. Dark fruit on the nose along with raspberry. Medium plus body, strong mouthcoating tannins, medium acid. Dark fruit, raspberry, cola, black currant, a hint of coffee, and a lengthy fruit finish. Tastes much younger than it is. Delicious fruit forward wine without being overripe. A definite crowd pleaser. 92+

July 16, 2021 - Blind. Aromas of tobacco, black currant and perfumed floral qualities. Full-bodied, with flavors of black fruit and mocha with a lingering, herb-tinged finish. Fully mature.

This had been double decanted off its sediment three hours before the flight was poured. It did not take long to realize this was our Clos Apalta.
