February 21, 2021 - Light in colour with dried fruit and a cherry candy note ... comes across with some very high-toned fruit, raspberry being the most dominant, plus plenty of acidity. Set it aside for a moment.

Coming back to it and I'm noticing it is a hard drink with all those high-tones, because it never really smoothes out and provides pleasure; the acidity also proves to be a problem, it keeps getting right in your face. The wine's not bad, although I sure sound like I had plenty of problems with it. It is certainly an interesting glass of wine - but it's just hard to drink.

December 21, 2017 - earthy and slightly peppery, but mainly silky and smooth with dried red berries on the mid-palate.

May 16, 2016 - Still drinking well. Good fruit & minerality. Great QPR.

May 15, 2016 - About what I would expect from a $15 bottle of wine at nine years of age. The fruit had a bit of a stewed quality to it, with a meatiness and smokiness from the syrah. This is hanging on, rather than "aging", but this exceeded very low expectations.

October 30, 2015 - Not as bad as previous reviews led me to anticipate.

Visually, this shows very little age with a bright medium ruby color, with legs that show the alcohol is probably on the higher side. On the nose, the syrah notes really dominate, with plums, blackberries and smoked meats. Oak and a touch of alcohol are also apparent. The palate picks up the red fruits from the grenache, which are slightly candied, but they are secondary to the black fruit, smokiness and meatiness from the syrah. On the finish you get a strong dark chocolate / coffee noted then it falls off the cliff.

This was made in a ripe style and seems to be on the downhill slope, although a little bit more near to the top than I expected. Certainly not the best wine I've ever had, but surprisingly good considering that its an 8 year old $15 bottle of wine that wasn't stored in particularly good conditions. If you have any, drink them now as this wine is headed in one direction.

(Can Blau, Montsant) To say this wine is a tremendous value is an understatement. Ah, Garnacha grown in the mountains of Tarragona! A deep purple-red, it explodes with plum, blackberry, and spice aromatics; on the palate, it's full-bodied, richly textured, and savory. Despite the impact, the wine is balanced, with a smooth, long finish. It's distinctly Spanish, but if you pronounce the name in French, it sounds like a party. Hot Picks
