February 3, 2024 - Double decanted for 2 hrs, deep ruby, black cherries on the nose & palate, med/firm tannins, long finish; delicious & just entering prime drinking, drink or preferably hold

December 25, 2023 - Decanted for 90 minutes+, and served alongside a 2013 Ovid Experiment R8.3 with Christmas dinner (prime rib). First impression was how deep and intense the nose was - deep, dark fruit with hints of herbal liquor, licorice and anise. Maybe the most deep and nuanced nose on a wine I've ever tasted, it felt like you could "fall in". And on the palate it (mostly) delivered on the nose: blackberries, black cherries, blue and purple fruit, with integrated tannins and a silky mouthfeel. For much of dinner I had it slightly ahead of the Ovid, despite my preference for that wine going into the night. As the night wore on the Insignia did seem to drop off some, and started to exhibit some bitter flavors and notes of green pepper. Nonetheless, a stupendous wine and a real treat. 94-96.

November 11, 2023 - Opened this wine next to a 2016 Amici Old Bull.

This wine was good, but wasn’t as good as the wine next to it. I got mostly secondary flavors at 13 years - leather, bitter chocolate, and a hint of licorice. It was unique, I will give you that. I wanted to like this more than it was, as it was my first Insignia. I have a 2012 I will try soon to see how that compares.

October 14, 2023 - Great wine that needed about 2 hour decant to really shine. Tannins are smooth. Paired great with bone-in filet and mushroom risotto at our favorite steakhouse. Actually enjoyed it more with food than without. Plenty of fruit left.

September 24, 2023 - The nose Was leather and dark fruit with a savory herbal essence. Flavors followed with black cherry and blackberry. Tannins were reserved with a long finish of the dark fruit! Beautiful wine!!
