February 17, 2023 - A bit more than two years since our previous bottle and this wine continues to sing. Slo-oxing for 10 minutes was enough to allow the wine to open. The color was a deep dark purple with lots of dark fruit on the nose. The medium plus bodied palate was heavy with black cherry, some raspberry and black currant, some spice and earth, and just a touch of cola. The acidity was nicely balancing, and any tannins were well integrated. Even at 12+ years old this wine may hold for another couple of years.
September 18, 2022 - A juicy layered explosión in the mouth of black cherry, forrest floor, sassafras, cloves, and spices.
October 3, 2021 - Well cellared bottle disappointingly simple. No depth, no complexity. Sigh
January 25, 2021 - Slo-oxed for ~15 minutes. The wine was a clear purple with fading to the rim. The nose put forth plenty of dark red fruits (dark cherry) along with a modest amount of earth. On the palate the wine showed medium plus body, with gobs of red and black cherries, some earth, some spice, sufficient acidity to balance, a touch of cola, and nicely integrated tannins. The wine could last another couple of years, but is highly enjoyable now.
January 6, 2021 - Still pretty good.
November 26, 2020 - Best Kosta I have ever had
June 16, 2020 - Slightly oxidized which took away any freshness, maybe I wasted too long.
May 16, 2020 - Perfect spot in the drinking window. Delegate cherry and less cherry cola. Tannins are gone and it’s just silky smooth. Yum. No earth, just pure modern fruit without being extracted or over the top. Does ring more of cool coastal fruit.
January 30, 2020 - Amana Skiers: Pw/splash decant. Clear, deep dark purple/ruby. Proper and usual KB nose. Rich, intense black fruit profile. Some earth, cola, aged. Nothing off, drink now. $85 winery direct.
December 27, 2019 - Just phenomenal after an hour decant. Drinking perfectly.
