July 15, 2023 - Colour, garnet, no bricking yet. On the nose - earthy, forest floor - maybe just a hint of wood. On the palate, mid-weight, still some fruit and acidity, the tannins are there but fading into the background at this stage. This was just very savoury and drinkable - over the course of cooking and eating I found I’d drunk slightly more of it than expected, happily the civilised 12.5% abv helped make that mistake somewhat easy to cope with.

April 4, 2020 - Initially this is quite volatile but, after about 30 minutes, this begins to blow off to show sweet blackcurrant and slight raisins backed by leather, meaty notes, biscuit, sweet spice. the volatility does, though, translate to the palate, grippy leathery drying, slightly gritty tannins, black and red currant fruit. Hmm.

December 7, 2019 - From Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas of liquorice, baking spices. With agitation shows cream, leather, sour black fruits, a jubey blackcurrant lozenge note, a touch fo black tea and horse sweat. Lots going on but the volume is low. Medium plus intensity acidity, red and black fruit, black tea, leather, tannins are drying, tight and talc textured, fruit persists and proves itself more ripe red than black on the finish but will with that jubey note. Alcohol warmth is slightly intrusive on the finish. Okay.

February 18, 2019 - MNB: Old Wines II (Jesper's): (blind)
Medium minus ruby with a garnet rim. Slight mushroom. Dusty, musty wood.
Dry, 14%, medium plus acid, medium plus tannins - slightly melted.
Indistinct fruit on the nose. Dried fruit, red fruit, slight black fruit.

    Slight dog fur Brett.

Could be Bordeaux right bank or Southern Rhône.

    Feels like slight tomato pyrazines.

    Final call:

1994 Right Bank, St Emilion. Pavie-Macquin.

    1996 Chateau Maucaillou Moulis
Bottle says 12.5% but I think higher.
Analysis: This is probably Merlot-dominant, so I'm not far off. It's showing really nicely! Though it hasn’t hung onto much dark fruit.

The vineyard is planted with 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot.

    30-40% new oak.

November 1, 2018 - Coravin fun - 1996 Medoc decision (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Red currant and blackcurrant, charcuterie, leather, slightly medicinal with muted wax polish, smoke. Surprisingly tannic and drying on the palate which dominates the red fruits. Finishes quite spicy. Hmm.
