Community Tasting Notes 17

March 19, 2024 - Poured clear on decanting. Very little sediment. Colour still vibrant. Garnet. Nose very pronounced. Rich fruit, smoke, ash herbs and leather. Plenty of fruit left. Rich tasting. Plenty of secondary notes, some chocolate creaminess, super fine tannins of medium length. Good acidity. Nothing tertiary and seeming to have loads left in the tank. I was foolish to think this wouldn’t make old bones. Good for 5-10 years if you like your GR rioja properly aged, as I do.

February 9, 2022 - Tasting now...enjoying thoroughly. Will return when sober and ready to write 🙃

Well...I lost my notes, which is a pisser because this was a really exceptional wine. Like others, it started with an oily Bordeaux feel, but drank dusty, dry and very Spanish.

Scorched earth is everywhere in this one, the most pronounced I have ever experienced. Along with the more savoury vanilla notes I was reminded of " toasted marshmallow" notes I read about once and awhile.

This wine exceeds its price range and offers a distinguished, rugged drinking experience. A rare treat. Dig it!

I found my jot notes! It went something like this:
    - a little oily and French feeling oh, it reminded me of a Bordeaux personally. Oily pull then it gets pretty darn Spanish, Earth and clove.
    - dark berried but not jammy dry, mid to light on med palate.
    - perfume and Sandalwood right from the get-go a touch of mushroom here in there
    - good and firm, solid structure.
    - immediate impression, well worth more than $58 in a day, drinks Superior to most of the $70 out there
    - oiliness gone, burnt marshmallow, or savoury vanilla and clove... Not exactly harmonious, but with distinctiveness and clarity.
    -charred charred earth
    - citrus peel, rubber
    - some beautiful things going on here.

December 26, 2021 - Really nice with rack of lamb. Nice balance with a long finish. I’m really liking the Riscal wines I’ve tasted lately and will keep an eye out for other vintages of this gran reserva. The reserva is of course a standby and can age very well. Drink or hold.
