February 4, 2024 - During a GE/AUT blind tasting. We had the 1996, 2005 and 2007 in a flight next to each other. All of them showed really well. The 1996 had the most complex tertiary nose with lots of Lychee aromas, the 2005 was the richest, with lots of layers of lemon and yellow fruit and the 2007 the lightest with the most precision. It was really a matter of taste which one you liked the most. I scored all of them 95-96. Spätlese at its best.

    February 3, 2024 - - Blind, GE/AUT tasting
    - Three Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese were served.

    1996:
    - floral, quince, honey but so lean and simply elegant and so complex but still precise. Has enough fullness and sweetness but balanced with a great acidity. Probably one of the best white wines I have drunk so far.
    - 96p

    2005:
    - Riper and more quince and honey, more body and beautiful stony flavours. Compared to the other two, the most intense Prüm.
    - 95p

    2007:
    - Aroma profile similar to the other two but leanest and most precise.
    - 94p

April 12, 2023 - Assorted riesling at D Cuisine (Chicago, IL): Oddly not as sculpted and racy as my previous bottles (though the last time I had a sound one was a few years ago). This has a peachy quality to this, and the wine comes off as a little diffuse and lacking precision. Still plenty of 1996 acidity, but this doesn't have that mineral backbone and structure that I expected.

August 12, 2022 - As always what an experience to drink these wine with a bit of age.
Beautiful on the nose, soft petrol, light toffee ) one of our friends commented reminds me of the smell of sea but she is from Naples so probably everything smell of see for her) . The palate is lacking , needs more weight and energy and we felt this is the limits of spatlese in this vintage and we would suggest one drinks sooner than late. Beautiful 93
