September 10, 2020 - PnP immediately after polishing a 1988 Dunn Howell Mountain. Big credit to the Oreno, whose depth and complexity held strong relative to the funk of the older cab. Maybe the comparison is what compels me to believe the Oreno would get even better with more time, as its tannins stood out relative to old Dunn. I previously rated a bottle of 2010 Oreno 92, but whatever the variation (bottles, context, and/or me), I'm bumping this score up.

Follow-up: still going strong on night two. Nice performance for the $.

August 16, 2020 - Very dark red/purple color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over 2 hours. This opens with some anise and subtle damp earth, and build to reveal a pure streak of cassis, crushed stones, and oregano. The nose gradually pulls everything together in a fine perfume. The palate is velvety, dense, yet feels lighter, just on the lighter side of full bodied. The purity to the cassis fruit is noticeable, racy acidity, prominent graphite, crushed rock minerality, earth, and polished tannins that have a little grip. This is a very solid Bordeaux blend, and it may get a little better with a couple years. 92+(+?)pts.

July 4, 2020 - Dark ruby turning garnet at the rim with a reflective edge. The nose gives off perfumed notes of smoky violets, dried herbs and black currants. The palate is full bodied, divinely balanced with just enough ripe fruit and savory, vibrant acidity. Flavors of black currants, black olives, oregano, bay leaf, seared meat, tobacco and pencil shavings. Such gracefulness and elegance for this cuvée on a great vintage. Finishes long with a hint of eucalyptus and basil. Drinking very well now until 2035.

May 10, 2020 - Decanted. Nose was quite earthy/funky for at least 5 hours in the decanter. After about 5 hours, the nose changed from earth to mild fruit. Taste of dark berries, dusty tannins - enjoyed with pasta. Not the same experience as last encounter 5 years ago.

April 24, 2020 - Really beautiful, balanced wine. Cherry, blackberry, scorched earth, licorice, dried flowers, graphite, and earth.
