April 9, 2020 - Ageless! I wish I had three more cases for the next decade! Earthy, fruity, complex, yet mellow after 16 years. Few appreciated what early and mid-life Chile was up to, and now you'll never find it again.

March 2, 2019 - Many Chilean wines have as their primary goal to minimize costs so that they are the low cost provider in the whole world, steadily undercutting other countries famous for different varietals, such as Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, Syrah from Australia and France, and Pinot Noir from Washington and California. To its credit, Montes Alpha's Syrah makes a seriously good Syrah from hillside vineyards that is rich but not sugary or bland, and well structured by acid and tannin instead of flabby soft. Overall, this refreshing and delicious 15 year old wine can go toe to toe against the spectrum of Syrahs from the Rhone Valley in France, Washington State, California, and Australia.

September 20, 2016 - Thought this wine would be past its prime, but I was pleasantly surprised that it was still drinking nicely. Lots a dark fruit and full-bodied. Tannins have melted away. For a $20 bottle, it was drinking very well at the age of 12.

May 1, 2015 - Artificial fruit and raspberries on the simple nose. Smoked Kobe steak on the front end, which gives this some character. Other than that, it's really just a New World fruit bomb.

November 10, 2014 - Shared this with pat, nunzio and fernanda on our trip to Boca. Reading notes from other CT members the wine seems to have lost complexity over the years but has gained some elegance.dark color. No browning or thinning at the rim. Still fruit forward but no substantial a alcohol heat. Firm grip in the mouth. Straightforward purple fruit. In good shape, especially considering that it has experienced inconsisten storage temperature over the years. Can easily go another year.

(MONTES ALPHA SYRAH) #2; VaynerPAZZZ (on QPR);COLOR-beautiful dark; NOSE-beautiful fresh ripe raspberry reduction sauce w/ pretty hint of Cinnamon; Kirsch Royale & stick aspect; TASTE-mini Oak Monster; pine cone component, intriguing dark Blueberries, little Crown Royal aspect; all coated by an elegance of Raspberries; very solid & delicious, but one-dimensional Fruit Bomb; fans of Australian Shiraz's would like this; drink over next 2 years; WS-91; GV-89
