March 24, 2019 - Classic Pichon. Black currant, blackberry, pencil lead, new leather. Plenty of backbone, but is drinking really great right now. Fabulous.

March 22, 2019 - Opened four hours before service and slow-oxed; decanted at service time. In the glass, very dark purplish-red. On the nose, initially a blast of funk, but that blew off after a few minutes, revealing cassis, tobacco, and leather. On the palate, black currants paired with high-toned tobacco and leather notes, clipped relatively quickly in the mid-palate by tannins. This is just at the very leading edge of its drinking window, and while it can be consumed now, I think forgetting about it for at least another five years would be wise.

March 19, 2019 - In Breck, before dinner. A wonderful wine. Has structure, sweet fruit, fine tannin. Elegance, class, finesse, and power. It's ready to roll and I think will likely stay on a plateau for a bunch of years before aging out.

February 11, 2019 - Although opened several hours in advance, the '00 Pichon Baron was playing things very close to the vest tonight. Rather subdued on the nose, with reticent notes of graphite, plums, and black currants. Medium-bodied, with the structure and tannins in the forefront; great concentration and depth though. I'll do my absolute best to not open any of my bottles until 2025.

February 9, 2019 - Pichon Baron and more (Dino's Grotto, DC): Cellared since release, perfect cork and fill. Popand pour, drunk over 4 hours. Dark red, minimal lightening at rim. Nice full nose of cassis, tar, leather and earth. Full bodied, ripe fruit, good balance, long finish, some complexity. Excellent to outstanding. Best of the 1989, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 group of Barons, and with the 1989 Conseillante one of my two favorites on the night.

(Château Pichon-Longueville Baron) Very dark red violet color; aromatic, appealing, black raspberry, black cherry, tart black currant nose; youthful, primary still, black raspberry, black cherry, tart black currant palate; needs 6-plus years; medium-plus finish

(Château Pichon-Longueville Baron) 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Medium purple color. Wonderfully rich, complex, earthy, and warm on the nose and palate. Mineral, fresh, and savory. good length, with a little warmth on the finish as well. Still seems quite closed now, but has lovely balance. Drink in five to 15 years.

(Chateau Pichon-Baron Pauillac) A very dark, impenetrable colour. The nose is closed, but gives some notes of roasted fruit and roasted nuts. There's a lovely fat texture on the palate, but with plenty of tannin and acidity to back it up. Dark, brooding, fruit. A splendid effort.
