January 2, 2024 - Nice ripe flavors. Sun baked fruit. Excellent tension and harmony.

October 20, 2023 - Quick decant off the sediment. Needed more air and continued to improve over 2 hours. Very charming and beautiful wine, light color almost like a Pinot, with bright fruit and silky tannins. Up there with Soldera for the best from this region.

April 3, 2022 - 8 Vintages of Biondi Santi Riserva 1975-2015: Great opportunity to learn about Biondi Santi and taste 8 Riserva vintages with technical director Frederico Radi. I see why people are intrigued by these wines: they are all about finesse and freshness, with high quality tannins (which still require long ageing to fully melt) and a high and but high quality acidity. Puristic but austere. I don‘t think the balance and the complexity are up there with the best fines wines. And I don’t find enough (or much) hedonistic charm in these wines (there is not enough fruit, especially considering that you should to age these wines 30, 40, 50 years). Don‘t get me wrong, these are good wines just not on the level one would expect given the reputation (or market prices).

TN: Chiseled nose displaying dark fruit, lots of graphite minerality, fine balsamic notes. Quite good. On the palate this shows very elegant with fine, noticeable tannins, lots of concentration with lots of earthy notes, lots of crushed rocks, with more fine red fruits, almost floral notes together with some darker berries building a good balance. The freshness is great, round and perfectly integrated high acidity. 93pts, doesn‘t have the complexity to get to the 95+ pts category.

April 2, 2022 - Tasted at the Matter of Taste Zurich Biondi Santi Masterclass (8 of the 41 Riservas ever made). A vintage that saw a difficult harvest due to cold and rainy weather.

    Tasting note
Ripe, red berry fruit, slightly alcoholic. Herbal and fleshy components. Lacking in linearity I found, but with nice intensity to it. After a while the fruit layers fan out into a broader array. Palate is slowly integrating with a nice tannic structure, still sufficiently fresh but with a mature touch and feel. Monica Larner who was moderating the tasting also highlighted balsamic notes and anis seed.

April 28, 2020 - Of old Biondi Santi memories-most good- this does not match the rich, deep dark oak/rose/cherry taste sensation that usually delivered (except when their quality dropped for a while) . I would give this wine another 3 years and then decant for well over an hour. The structure was fine, the color a beautiful Sangiovese dark blackish red, and the material certainly evident well below the surface. Little on the nose after an hour in the decanter and coaxing even a tiny bit of real fruit over the next 40 minutes was an effort. Definitely worth the wait.
