March 6, 2019 - Achim's Magnum Tasting 2017 (Berens am Kai 1 star Restaurant): Wirkt jetzt schon sexy und zugänglich. Neben der Cassisnote, etwas Leder, Mokka und dunkle Schokolade. Dazu etwas Bleistift. Der Wein ist deutlich harmonischer als der Mitstreiter. Hier paßt alles zusammen. Trotz der dominierenden Frucht bieten die erfrischende Säure und die bereits integrierten Tannine ein großes Trinkvergnügen. 97(99)

February 24, 2019 - Deep purple color with a bouquet and flavor of eucalyptus, tar, and leather, with hints of cassis. Still quite closed and will likely improve with more time in bottle. I have decided to withhold a rating. This wine went through Hurricane Katrina and may have suffered as a consequence.

February 4, 2019 - One of the best bottles of this vintage I can recall tasting. This continues to soften, fill out and add nuances to the concentrated, lush, rich, full, floral, pure style of the vintage. With a genuine depth of flavor, rich, silky textures and soft tannins, the sweet, deep red fruits in the finish hang with you for close to 60 seconds. By 2025, this should enter its plateau of maturity and will offer pleasure for at least 40 more years after that.

January 5, 2019 - First dinner of 2019! (Galletto Ristorante, Modesto Ca.): First nose...OH BOY...this is going to be good! The most amazing mushroom forest, leather, floral perfume nose...dark berries and cassis, licorice, pencil lead...seemless and actually quite elegant and velvety...an array of complexities...olive, tobacco leaf, graphite, earth spice...awesome balance. A wonderful wine that will only get better.

December 31, 2018 - The wine looks deep crimson colored. There is light sediment in the bottle. The body is full. Beautiful nose of fruit/leather saddle with a bit of bell pepper as well. The wine has round/silky texture with a richness that stood out from the three Bordeauxs we drank last night (96 Pinchon, 2000 Giscours). It had the most complexity, and multi layered depth. We did a 3.5 hours decant and the tannins were smooth, but boy the finish was long and dry. This is of course a fantastic wine but compared to the 2000 Giscours, which is $700 cheaper, it was tough to tell the difference blind. I think someone else mentioned 2025 for best timing and I would humbly agree. I think it would come into a better balance, meaning a bit more opened up. Enjoy!

(Château Margaux) Pencil lead and beeswax nose; tight, but nice mid-palate, with flavors of fig and anise; long finish
