February 13, 2017 - Pyramid Valley new releases: Out of magnum. Blackcurrant/cassis, kirsch and raspberry, feels like there is a fair bit of DMS showing through here. Ripe on the palate, but has good flow. Medium length. Will appeal to some more than others.
December 1, 2016 - Had with Thanksgiving 2016 left overs w/Brandon's. Excellent pinot. Earth and loam with hints of dark chocolate, mocha.
November 7, 2014 - Not decanted. Ripe Now 'n' Later red raspberry juice bomb, cranberry juice, with just enough sweet molasses/custard and graphite. Really tasty. If you can find it under $35, buy it. Drink now-2017.
June 18, 2014 - Ripe and lush. It shows the dark, plummy side of what cabernet franc can be, rather than the savory side of the grape.
May 17, 2014 - Really delicious stuff here. Dark garnet toward ruby, no sign of age. The nose is clean, and pure with scents of tobacco, red berries, earth, baking spice and fresh herbs. The nose suggests everything is in balance, that the pick date was spot on and little to no buggery in the cellar took place, and, the palate confirms as much. A big success, for sure, with fresh acids, and seamless red fruits that are tempered by fine, sweet tannins; EtOH is fully integrated. Structured, and pure, this was a big hit with fellow somms/buyers/etc., and a welcome surprise on the night. highly recommended, 14,5% abv., drink thru 2019
SnP, served non-blind.
I tried to source some more after tasting it, and it had vanished; I'd have bought at least (6) (anyone have some for sale?). Was $28.99 @ K&L
March 21, 2014 - A different take on Cab Franc if you are used to Chinon. A much fuller body, and more fruit forward. Really well made and interesting. I would have guessed this was Pinot Noir.
August 23, 2013 - The nose was deep, rich and vibrant with sweet cherry, cinnamon spice, wild herbs and stoney minerals providing an earthy canvas to it all. On the palate, it was medium-bodied, juicy and fresh with sweet, bright cherry, citrus peel, exotic spice and a core of brisk acidity. Hints of tannin lingered on the palate, reminding me that this is wine and more than just a delicious beverage. It was a highly enjoyable Cab Franc that I will look for going forward.
