October 23, 2014 - Birthday Dinner with Good Wine (NEXT Restaurant - Chicago IL): Popped and poured. Much like another bottle from 2 years ago, this provided good, simple pleasure. Mature plum and black berries with better aromas than flavors. Most interesting to start, far less enjoyable after 30 minutes in glass. Served alongside the very good 1959 Ausone.

October 20, 2012 - 50th Birthday Celebration Dinner with Wine (Chez Schmidt - Chicago IL): Very ripe mature fruit. Larger scaled than expected. Lots of earth, lots of fruit. Surprisingly easy to enjoy for a wine its age, not very nuanced.

October 24, 2011 - There is a story how I got to taste this wine. Yesterday I had my next door neighbors for rotisserie duck dinner.
Somehow we managed to run out of vodka, I was wine drinker in minority, and we went to his house to bring some more.
He likes and drinks wines and has a couple hundred bottles cellar he inherited from his father, the vivid wine collector in the 80's in NYC.
It took us a while to chose the bottle of vodka to bring and he knowing how much I salivate about his cellar which contains verticals of DRC, Petrus, Mouton Rothschild, Lafitte, etc,
he offered to take the bottle of wine with us. Needless to say I said thanks!
He came to the wine cabinet, and...grabbed the first bottle his hand landed on. Showed the bottle to me and asked, you think it's any good? The bottle was 1962 Ausone and I just said wow!

Low shoulder, slightly maderized but it almost blew off in the decanter, bricking on the edges with bright ruby red still inside, tremendous wine!

More than the wine itself, I was impressed by his generosity! It could have easily been 1959 Petrus, he didn't care. Rarity nowadays if you ask me.

God bless those Italians and their giving nature.

March 2, 2010 - 1962 Bordeaux horizontal (Institute of Directors, London): Very similar to the Canon, light, fresh, medicinal, graphite, earth, iodine, lots of bite and grippy finish - bracing
