July 13, 2019 - Blackberry, tobacco, leather; rich, thick, smooth, almost silky, quite aged and showing some signs of decay, but very drinkable and very good indeed with some life in it still

August 17, 2014 - No formal note, but very good bottle. Lots of sweet, smoky fruit with a hint of something like sage. Much better than the 1984.

April 16, 2014 - Decanted 1 hr
Dark ruby red with no hint of bricking; subtle nose of vanilla and black berries, this lasted 2 hrs;
the body was lean and more "acidic" in a traditional Old world style than I would have expected; Flavors of new world Black berry ( not cassis) Black raspberry and hint of suede/tobacco. Late in the evening some mint came out.
Medium finish, balanced but not extraordinary.
Surprisingly, I don't think this is at the end of it's evolution... -

November 22, 2013 - Deep, dark, mature garnet in color with ever slight bricking at the edges. Fragrant, attractive & mature nose of ripe red fruits of cherries, berries & cassis with leather & earthy overtones, herbs, some cedar, black tea, mint, cocoa, licorice, spices, minerals and a hint of vanilla in the background. Full bodied of mature, smooth and a good concentration of ripe red fruit flavors of cherries, cranberries & strawberries with herbs, minty, mocha, spices, earthy, some minerals and a touch of vanilla. Lingering silky smooth finish. Presently at its peak but has the structure to last for several more years before fading. A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon & 30% Merlot.

October 13, 2007 - Thirty Years of Phelps Insignia (1974 through 2004): Expressive nose featuring red and black fruits. Brooding and smokey. In the mouth this is more elegant than aggressive, with dark fruit and a strong minerality driving the flavors. Great balance. Gripping tannins. Great length. An awesome way to begin the evening.
