June 24, 2023 - This bottle has lots of life left and had more Syrah funk than I normally see from Betz. Overall, fantastic and held up perfectly over two nights.

May 18, 2022 - The full body of this wine is somewhere between an Australian Barossa Shiraz and a Petaluma Gap Syrah. With the rim variation, the wine looks to be in a prime drinking window. Bright ruby with hints of purple, the first whiff shows an aged wine, but as it opens up, the wine seems more youthful. Deep opaque concentration, heavily extracted. Dark dried black fruits, blackberry and cherry, some cinnamon spice on the moderate and not so complex nose. Delicious to sip with medium tannins and a higher acidity, black fruit, moderate complexity and a short finish. Struck me as a warm climate, New World, Washington state wine. Two bottles tasted and still disappointing given Betz's reputation.

August 28, 2021 - drank with left over pot roast. Still drinking well. Best after a little air. Probably time to drink up.

(Betz Family Winery La Serrene Syrah Yakima Valley) Dark and glass staining. A moderately aromatic, brooding wine with light peppery notes, herbs, and plum. The palate is rich but restrained with a palate-coating texture. 100% Syrah. Boushey Vineyard. 14.4% alcohol.
