September 5, 2022 - 8th of 24 halves, pnp, perfect cork and level, nice enough but burnt caramel flavours tending now to dominate at expense of fruit and citrus, so tad unbalanced, I'm sure no real rush but for my palate I'd drink sooner than later, hopefully the bottles are fresher. F (17.5).

August 23, 2022 - From 375mL. Golden-orange; high intensity aromatics with orange liqueur, almost muscat-level pure orange fruit, orange blossom, spice; palate is full bodied, sweet, primary orange fruit just starting to fade a touch, not yet much secondary complexity to replace it, medium-plus 14% alcohol, medium acidity, barley; medium length finish. A bit showy, decently balanced acidity for the vintage, still enjoyable for its primary fruit but I'm not confident this will turn into a great wine as it matures rather than just hollowing out in the middle. Nevertheless, likely impossible to tell at this stage. I will enjoy my bottles over the next few years, 90 for enjoyment today.
After reading my past notes, this is most similar to my bottle from 2015, including my comparison to Quady's orange essensia. Hasn't changed much in the past 7 years.
Day 2: A bit less intensity but a bit more balanced with less showy alcohol. Overall still a lovely sauternes to drink now, but not the strongest vintage Rieussec.

August 6, 2022 - It's a tasty and viscous sweet wine, but a bit too sweet for my taste and unbalanced. Very little acid to finish it. The fruit notes are almost lost in the sweetness. This was not bottle variation as I had a different bottle the night before and felt the same. Further, compared it with an 01 Latour Blanche, which, for my palate, was far better - more complex, much better balance, much more nuance.

June 19, 2022 - A father's day delight. Honey, caramel and butterscotch. So pleasurably sweet and delicious. Deep gold in color, this is ready to enjoy now, but will last 5 more at least.

April 18, 2022 - From 375 ml......golden amber color. Nice butterscotch, flavor. I enjoyed it but it came off just a bit too acidic, maybe in decline so drink up. Would recommend drinking this alongside some fruit or nuts or on its own.

(RIEUSSEC) Rieussec Dear Friends, I've had a propensity toward sweet wines lately (maybe it's the dank Parisian spring (winter?) that has me huddled by the fire in need of dessert wine) but this wine simply cannot be topped for quality and value. You can downplay 2003 all you want but I'm not sure why? If you are into Sauternes and are looking for something to enjoy over the next decade (to avoid the sacrifice of your precious 2001s), I cannot think of a better price/value star than this. It delivers all the secondary quality that this estate has become synonymous with (plus an extra layer of exotic fruit) for a fraction of the 2001's price. Chateau Rieussec has elevated their status to just below that of Yquem and their 2001 is evidence of how far they've come since the 1970s. The 2003 is nearly the equal of Yquem - if you taste both wines blind, my guess is that half of you will prefer the Rieussec and it's price cannot be topped (Parker actually rated the Rieussec higher). This parcel has arrived directly from Bordeaux with the finest provenance available (it is not a pre-arrival) - it will be available for local pick up in a few weeks (early May due to posting laws). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 2003 Chateau Rieussec Sauternes 375ml Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Bord8731
