July 8, 2016 - My first bottle of Soldera BdM so I had no prior experience with the wine from this producer or the vintage. For some reason, I was expecting a big concentrated wine with plenty of grip possibly influenced by my perception of a contemparary Bordeaux. The reality could not have been farther from this preconception. This is pure Sangiovese at is finest. Concentrated only in the sense of a fine Vonse that has depth of flavor but lightness. Perfectly balanced and perportioned. Surprisingly subtle and smooth for the varietal with no hard edges, tartness or volatility. Just gracefully washes over the palate. Leaves a lovely long and soft lingering finish. Provides that "elusive sweetness" that only the great mature dry wines impart. My only reticence is that it is not overly complex having developed little secondary or tertiary characteristics. Just pure succulent mature cherry flavors. Lovely wine, but I think that there are other examples that provide similar experiences at a fraction of the cost.

March 7, 2015 - 1st Vivino Int'l chapter in Singapore (Sat. evening/night), Part-2 (Park Regis restaurant): From the Burgs, we moved on to the Italians. And what a privilege and treat this is - the '86 Soldera! Coffee, chocolate on the nose which followed onto the palate, plus some red-dark berries notes. Still very fresh, balanced and long. What a wine! Christian, thanks!

April 27, 2012 - Brunello 1990 Horisontal Tasting (@ Canan): A very expressive and complex nose filled with intense chocolate covered dark cherry fruit and a hint of sewer and marcipan.
Delicious and intense palate that I just loved. A little sweet with fresh cherry fruit but still an intense long acidic aftertaste that really balances out the entire wine. There is also a lot of complex spices on the palate that is really exciting..
The flavors are compact and dense but without being overdone or extracted.
Beautiful, fresh and intense wine that I just adored!
This bottle performed a lot different from my previous tasting of this wine. Perhaps this bottle was just stored a lot better?

January 26, 2009 - Soldera mini-Vertical (Il Grappolo Blu (CPH)): A very special nose that initially was quite oxidized but it blew away and with time it opened up nicely with a little dust, vanilla, coffee and flowers.
The palate was on the other hand very good! Sweet cherries accompanied by a very elegant acidity and the wine seems to be in a perfect balance. Long and impressive length with great complexity displaying dark spices and black tea.
    An elegant and feminine wine.
