Community Tasting Notes 5

April 9, 2019 - Dinner at MingHin (Chicago, IL): This has a bit of that animale funk that older chenin can pick up, but it's in the context of some pretty nice spice and golden fruit flavours, which are definitely very nice. Fairly sweet on the palate, but sufficiently balanced by the acidity. I don't think this is too complex, but there is nonetheless, as the finish seems to drop off a little, but there still is plenty to like here.

    February 20, 2016 - Color - gold
    Nose - Citrus
    Body - Moderate to heavy
    Duration Moderate to long
Taste - Sweet is the overwhelming. Flavors of honey, apple, citrus, with a vague spit in the background. It lacked the strong acidity which usually comes in Chenin Blanc-based wines but I am told that this is typical for this region. Very well balanced.

September 21, 2013 - Exactly what I would expect out of a moelleux Vouvray: Good balance of residual sugar and acidity, nice soft fruit. Nose is very herbaceous and honeyed. As another reviewer noted, the typical Vouvray steely minerality is lacking. That missing note is maybe what holds this back from being very good instead of simply good.

November 11, 2012 - Quite light in color - in fact the lightest white of a group of 1996s. Mostly primary fruits on the nose, with orchard fruit, beeswax and straw notes. Medium plus bodied with great fresh acidity. Quite a bit of RS still, but then again it is a moulleux. Good length. Enjoyable, but not outstanding. Would be interesting to see in about 5 years.

November 4, 2012 - On the sweeter end of off-dry but not cloying. Fair and balanced. Wished it had a bit more mineral though stone fruit still fresh. Minimal secondary flavor profile. Modest finish.
