January 29, 2021 - Absolutely delicious. Soft tannin, plenty of fruit, but IMO, not going to get better...drink it up!
September 30, 2020 - From beginning to end, this case of wine has been a fabulous. The last bottle is even better than the first. Bright dark berry fruits, leather, eucalyptus, showing place in spades. This is Napa front to back. Soft tannins and an elegant finish of 1.5 minutes. Yum is an understatement. Shoutout to Heidi, what a spectacular wine!
September 10, 2020 - It took over an hour to loose its somewhat gritty tannins and smooth out - with tannins becoming more dusty than gritty. Once it did smooth out plenty of ripe black and red fruits came through in some nice layers. Some dried herbs, and vanilla Oak as well. This bottle seemed like it had another 5 years before it would be on its back end of the drinking window.
November 27, 2019 - Dark, brooding still, sat open in btl for 2hrs, a steak wine for sure that still has plenty of legs...
June 15, 2019 - Was curious to see what this was like after 18 years in bottle and it's still very good. Medium/dark red with shades of violet, it has a pleasant nose of dark fruits, cassis, with some mocha/espresso notes. On the palate, the tannins are nicely polished and frame the fruit well, so you have some more jammy elements of raspberry, blueberry cobbler come out. Nice on the finish, with oak quite evident, but nicely rounded out by the 18 years of bottle age. I'd say this still definitely has 5 yrs, perhaps even 10 left in it. Very well crafted, typical California will not disappoint but just lacks a bit of complexity that would warrant a higher score.
December 15, 2018 - Chocolate, dark berries, sweet spices and firm acidic impressions in the bouquet. On the palate dare and red berries, juicy acidity, red currants and still slightly sticky tannin. This wine can probably last for at least another 5+ years.
July 4, 2018 - Still has a nice deep color in the bowl. Black cherries, blackberries, chocolate, licorice, leather, and wood in the nose. Deep rich fruit in the the flavor, with black currants, blackberries, chocolate, and hints of earthiness and mint. Full-bodied wine with nice complexity and a long finish. Has improved since my last tasting four years ago.
April 2, 2018 - I think there was a lovely wine underneath the brett. There was some chocolate and cherry underneath. We finished the bottle but I'm really having a bad run of brett lately.
January 22, 2018 - The '01 Dalla Valle Cab was a bit tight on opening, but after 15 minutes in a decanter and an excuse to open a bit of bubbly, by the time we crawled back to the DV, we were treated with bright cherry, blackberry, and a hint of mocha, finishing with a long finish and seductive flavors of berry, marzipan and coffee spice. Lovely.
October 19, 2017 - WOTN for me, given its balance, maturity and overall satisfaction of drinking this was a winner.
