November 16, 2020 - Crushed wet stone, roasted berry, and Cayuse funk aromas which develop beautifully over time in the glass with soft tannins on a long finish!
September 27, 2020 - So, this is plenty yummy. Loaded with flavors of blackberry, red raspberry, nice acidity. It’s pretty mellow for age 9. Nice cut of acidity and a good finish. Just that I expected a bit more - I’ve had maybe six of these over the last few years and this seems a little bit plain.
September 8, 2020 - nice wine, but I thought boring, which is rarely the response to a Cayuse. There was some of the Cayuse funk and smoke, but not overpowering. Balanced and smooth, but not what I hoped for. I dropped out of their club and do not regret it. I have to agree with Familydoc's note. I still have a number of Cayuse wines so I am hoping for better.
August 30, 2020 - An interesting Cayuse experience, but at the price... I dunno.
It's a more austere Cayuse then we've had before, the nose really just didn't seem to open up and remained sheep butt and vanilla, eventually giving a big of green olive, but the nose never had much fruit and wasn't as complex as previous I've had
It tasted good, dark fruit, vanilla, funky on the finish.
I'm kind of over Cayuse now. At this price...you can buy a lot of really much more delicious if slightly fewer tertiary notes. I've got other vintages in the cellar but I'm not sure I'm going to bother anymore, I'm kind of over it.
August 16, 2020 - Exact same note as the prior bottle - thought 91 points before I opened my prior note and the comments were spot on for this bottle as well. Good consistency, if a little lacking in expression.
June 23, 2020 - Pleasantly surprised by this, as I went in thinking it was going to be a bit bigger and riper than it was. A bit funky on open, but this was drinking well and open for business. Meaty, dark fruit, some northern rhone characteristics. Really nice balance.
June 19, 2020 - Not one of the the more expressive Cayuses I've had, but plenty fine. Nice colour, not showing much age at all, just a tinge of brick. Pure, slightly smokey, meaty, but mainly pure blackberry and dark cherry fruit, with a little currant. Palate is medium bodied, pretty savoury with fine tannins, medium acidity and nice long finish. Miore blackberry fruit, some currant and maybe red plum on the finish. Complexity falls off somewhat on the finish as well. Not one of the better Cayuse bottles, will try and find my remaining two and drink up.
June 4, 2020 - Part of a larger tasting, and rather overshadowed, as it started out quite closed (it was not opened by the owner in advance), and did not get the necessary attention later to see where it might go. I was impressed by the overall material, and depth, but could not get a real read on it. Wish I had gone back to it later, but it slipped my mind.
June 4, 2020 - Opened and drank over 4-5 hours. Wine opened up fairly quickly after 1 hr or so. Tangy succulent fruit yielding to earth and green olives. Silky mouthfeel, medium acidity, fine tannins. Very enjoyable aged Cayuse in a great period right now, we have found Cayuse drinks lovely 8-10 years past vintage.
May 15, 2020 - Woodward Cellar Emptying; 5/15/2020-5/16/2020 (Woodyville): Loved this wine! As usual Cayuse finds a way to be hedonism in a glass, IF you don't mind the "funk". I'm ok with it. Blackberry, meat, clove and pepper with florals later. Just FUN! there's structure to hold, but.... Now-2025.
