December 16, 2019 - Sauternes study (Chicago, IL): From half-bottle. I'm starting to think whether the 1986 Sauternes vintage is a bit of a red herring in that it's just not as good as how it's talked up. Like the 1986 Climens, this shows a bit of almondy high-tonedness on the nose that didn't really ever go away, despite my opening this the day before we drank it. The palate doesn't have the richness and raw power of the best vintage, and the botrytis isn't too intense either. A little more on the herbal side with medium complexity; a great wine but perhaps an average Yquem. It's certainly not at the level of the 2001 (or the 1988-90 trilogy).

December 5, 2019 - Oh man ... amazing. Dissipating oily notes at first, but just extraordinary; nose, balance, finish.

November 7, 2019 - Charleston Offlineorama V; 11/7/2019-11/10/2019 (The Holy City): Loved it. Rich, thick and unctuous without being cloying. There are cloves, dried pinapple and a long finish. The balance illustrates the greatness that is Yquem.

November 7, 2019 - Charleston V - the wooden anniversary; 11/6/2019-11/10/2019 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): I believe this is one of the more underrated vintages of D'Yquem. And it seems to be in a wonderful spot right now. Here there is a bit more of a mouthful than the '81. It's very round and lovely. But also with that racy acidity that keeps it light and pretty. The best part is the finish. Just goes on and on. I can still taste it the next day.
