February 28, 2024 - Acker "Paulee" Burgundy Dinner (Capital Seafood - Beverly Hills CA): Paulée style dinner. Vosne-styled red fruits and spice with good weight, great balance and persistence.
April 30, 2023 - Elegant nose of red and black fruit, touch of spice and meat. Carried through to the palate with some earthy notes and blue fruit. Great balance and length. Not the Leroy fireworks I love, but quite enjoyable.
August 20, 2022 - The CFO's Birthday: Not very giving tonight. Dark, brooding, powerful wine that didn't open up. Not a generously perfumed or seductive wine. A privilege to drink, but clearly needs time.
December 11, 2020 - Label this bottle wrong it’s the 1996 Clos Vougeot
Bottle number 4467
January 12, 2019 - RE dinner. Stem aromatics. Really rich, sweat palate. Not highly acidic. (1386/7257)
December 11, 2018 - Bit of air and wow. Cola aromatics with lightness, so Leroy. So much intensity and depth. Sweet palate. (936/7257)
October 9, 2018 - Great perfume of rose petals, smoke, berry and spiced plum. It is sweet, luscious and deep, building through the palate and finishing with strength and stoniness.
August 29, 2018 - Soapy and floral. Not entirely sure whether that was the wine or the glass by that point.
March 1, 2018 - Zachys La Paulée "Warm-up" Dinner (Sessions at the Presidio - San Francisco CA): Small glass, brief note. Ripe red and black fruit aromas with enticing Leroy perfume and roasted meat. More red fruited flavors with sweeter spice. Very good length. Upside from here.
December 7, 2017 - This bottle is very backward. The nose is completely muted upon opening. After 1 hour in the decanter, the nose has some herbs and sweet black fruit but lacks the leroy floralness. Palate expresses more, but for a 99 leroy, i would expect more density and intensity. Give this another 5-7 years. Very interested to see how it will develop. My gut feeling is that leroy 2001 is a better vintage than 1999
