February 16, 2015 - This wine is deceptively simple. A bourgogne from a small producer in St. Romain, tucked inconspicuously northwest of Auxey-Duresses. There's no real reason to assume a wine of character, finesse, or any real distinction.
Not being familiar with the producer, I did a little homework and he works sustainably by hand with minimal intervention. The bourgogne is aged half in cement and half in used oak. I assume it grows around St. Romain, though the domaine is now imported by Kermit Lynch and a confusing shelf talker says the bourgogne grapes are sourced just outside of Nuits St. Georges, where Buisson owns a little Argillieres. Kudos to Kermit for finding the place, curse him if he raises prices.
There's far more to the wine than my rambling above would suggest. Brilliantly pure and inviting nose of raspberry and strawberry fruit with a whisper of sous bois. Light to medium bodied at present, though I suspect it will gain weight with a little more time. Lithe and springy in the mouth, great lift and balance. It's still pretty tight and shows off that '10 pedigree (it's labeled 12.5% ABV and tastes like it).
At around $25 it's a relative bargain assuming it stays here. Reminds me of the old days when all I could afford were the bourgognes, hautes cotes, and when you could find it Santenay La Comme. 1er Cru, Woo-hoo.
June 2, 2014 - This is a tasty and fairly affordable example of Burgundy. Pleasant nose of cherry, minerality, earth, and a hint of fennel. Palate is light, fresh, a little tight, but quite pleasant with a dinner of grilled sausages as the acidity cuts through the fat and melds quite nicely. Definitely worth a try if you want an inexpensive view at what Burgundy has to offer.
February 1, 2013 - Primary and extra-ordinary beautiful. Everything is just right there.
December 11, 2012 - Powerful and intense smell from a riedel grand cru burgundy glass. Delicious and tasty, very easy to drink.
December 11, 2012 - Dark cherries, spice, pronouced nose with just a kiss of tight tannins on the back end. Lingering brown sugar spice note on the back. Quite young yet all there and finely built. Works it out for around $25.
November 29, 2012 - Not Rated. This is my first 2010 Burgundy and it was a total disappointment. Although I decanted this wine and tried to consume it over 3 days, it was totally closed. The nose was just barely discernible as burgundy-like. On the palette there was not really much going on. Over the 3 days that I continued to taste this Burg, nothing much changed.
