June 24, 2022 - Dégustation Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Verticale 2017, avec Déjeuner (1243 Bourgogne Society - Beaune): Second bottle tasted over lunch was quite different than the first. Fresher and more intensely Vosne-spiced, this seemed around the right age, but was less fully composed and layered vs the first bottle. Still very tasty and enjoyable.

June 24, 2022 - Dégustation Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Verticale 2017, avec Déjeuner (1243 Bourgogne Society - Beaune): First of two bottles tasted over lunch. Fully mature aromas and flavors were so mature that I would have thought it from an underripe vintage in the 1980s if served blind. Which is not to say it is bad, just very advanced, even while still showing lots of red cherry and baking spice that I would expect from Vosne. Good weight and length. Second bottle was quite different....

March 16, 2022 - Delicate spices, subtle sandalwood, small forest berries, ferns, pine, etc...lots of subtlety and complexity; silky elegant palate, slightly elevated acidity but not too much; lovely wine, so interesting to see the polar opposite in the '03. Zachy's Burg Wine Dinner at AOC.

January 28, 2022 - Domaine Romanee Conti Lunch (Phoenix, AZ USA): In a lineup of 7 DRC reds, this one generated the most discussion. Opinions were all over the map, the least consensus of any of the wines - except we all agreed the aroma was phenomenal.

My take was the aroma was soaring and magnificent, with classic Vosne spice and rose petals. The palate started with sweet fruit, but it fell a bit flat in comparison to the aromas. With air some astringency emerged and detracted from the experience.

If the astringent/green notes go away with time, this could be a top vintage for DRC Richebourg. However, that's quite an expensive gamble at today's prices, and I'd rather drink the seamless 2000 RSV served beside it.

November 21, 2021 - 01920/11446. What a classic Richebourg, third time tasting this wine, even better than the previous two. Much more resolved greeness than I remembered, lacy, compact, stemmy, so attractive. 95

(Romanée-Conti Richebourg) Yield 27.25 hl/ha - or 953 cases. Slightly deeper colour. Violets and smoke on the sweet nose - the stems are more forward than with the previous wines. Lovely red fruit notes waft from the almost drained glass. Again a different approach - the wine starts narrow but widens and widens on the palate. There tannins are evident but well covered by fruit. The length is very sneaky indeed. There is similar concentration but better balance compared to the Saint-Vivant. Despite not fileding the usual Richebourg 'punch', this is a super package.
