February 10, 2014 - Looks like the "Reserva" designation has some meaning. Rather complete from front to back. Dark red, but not all that intense color, you can barely see your two fingers. The nose has some cocoa bean, walnut shell, evergreen or sandalwood, and blue fruit. Just past medium bodied, this is one of those wine whose color and texture does not reveal the whole story. Almost delicate, and definitely elegant for an Argentinian Malbec. The palate is lean but competent red raspberry and cherry with plenty of gritty tannins. Not as overly fruity as some Malbec's. Decent mid palate. Smokey and toasty from oak. Nicely balanced. Some evergreen, maybe hemlock with red fruit and graphite on the finish.
May 8, 2013 - Perfect age for this wine. Deep cherry with peppery finish.
April 12, 2013 - Drinkable
April 2, 2013 - New producer in provincial store, along side a Cab - $15 CAN. Fairly standard, young Malbec that is fruit forward/heavy with light cherry/berry fruit. Needs a little more structure to balance this richness.
A style a lot of people new to red wine will like. Not for the discerning palate. Maybe in 5 yrs?
March 16, 2013 - Nothing to get excited about, but decent enough. Just your typical lower end Argentinian Malbec, fairly well made with decent fruit, not much tannic structure and a little too much acidity. A bit hollow, not much on the finish, but there are certainly worse Malbecs out there. Not bad at all, just ordinary. Will do in a pinch. Fairly good value at $8, wouldn't pay much more than that.
January 10, 2013 - This is a delicious and enjoyable Malbec. A spicy thread weaves together elements of mocha, cherry, berries, cracked pepper, cassis, cedar, and plum. Good acidity and balance with a solid finish. Great QPR at $6. -88 points-
