  • andreaskoeberl Does not like this wine:

August 10, 2020 - Tasted blind. Awful nose of licorice and onions, almost no fruit. Palate wasn't any better. Possibly a bad bottle, but no consensus among tasters. Avoid.

February 14, 2017 - Deep dark purple in color. Doesn't give up much on the nose. Fills the mouth with tart red fruit and then the most amazing thing about this wine is the finish. It finishes strong with successive waves of flavor, rolling in and out for a long time. Drinking nicely with little sign of age.

November 12, 2016 - 96-97. With Hannah at Underbelly. No decant. Youthful still. Nose of dark raspberry, forest floor, olive, funk. Nice mouth feel. Not too complex at the mid palate. Nice finish. Nice wine...

June 12, 2016 - Purple color with a bouquet and flavor of plums and pepper that still had some un-integrated tannins, despite it's age. I did not find it very nuanced or exceptional. Unlike other readers, I am not convinced that it will improve with more aging. I have had other bottles of Astralis that were excellent and memorable. In general, it is better to find wines that are wows with shorter times in bottle. Avoid wines that you buy in youth and will have to drink when you are walking with a cane.

April 18, 2016 - This wine still needs major decanting. I put it through the vinturi into a decanter and poured the first little glass 1 and a 1/2 hrs later. Drank the bottle over a 2 hr period and have just finished it. The wine only just started to really open up at the end. Deep dark fruits and a molasses like cape, along with the colour, cloaked this wine until the end. Then the blue and red berries, liquorice and a floral sensation started to lift off. Wines like this are an experience and I can't wait to open the next bottle and give it a lot more air.
