March 5, 2022 - March 2022 - Opus One Winery Tasting (Opus One Winery): TN: Definitely noticing the age here with more orange hued rim and a garnet core. Nose is pronounced, showing a lot of fruit still and some tertiary notes of leather. On the palette, lots of baking spices, black fruit, dried cranberries, cassis, slight menthol character.

Still holds a firm tannic structure (med+ tannins), long finish, med+ acid, but what holds my attention is the balance between all of its elements. I found this to be the most French styled out of the two flights and it was one of my favorites of the tasting for sure. Not as popular amongst the rest of my group. 95-96pt.

August 3, 2021 - Nothing short of excellent. Big tobacco notes on the entry giving way to cocoa and beautiful red fruit. Lots of time ahead, but drinking beautifully now.

May 22, 2021 - Decanted one hour. This is still very tannic but enjoyable with enough intense black fruit and sweet acid to balance it. This actually got tighter with more air so perhaps pop and pour is better if drinking now. On the palate, blackcurrant, licorice, mint, green herbs, ferocious tannins. First of three bottles. Very likely this will improve with a bit more time in cellar.

November 1, 2020 - Tasted blind with friends. Decanted for 2 1/2 hours. I correctly guessed a definite Bordeaux style, with Napa grapes. Beautiful aroma, substantial mouth feel and lingering finish. This wine has excellent potential for further aging. I will not touch another bottle for at least five years.

July 7, 2020 - Expressions of Time and Place at Opus One with Michael Silacci - 67PM tasting

MS notes: not easy but "fun" vintage having learned so much from difficult '10.

    Picked early.

    Ruby, crimson to rim.
Rustic, savoury nose, green pepper, farmyard - cow pats?! - herbal, forest floor/moss
Dark cherry core with green tobacco leaf, pepper, chard on the palate.
Achingly smooth, with grip at the end

    med/long finish.

Highly moreish. I seem to have enjoyed this more than other notes suggest you might. But this stood ground in vertical. Would drink now from home or off the list.
