March 11, 2016 - Honestly there isn't much 'there' there. The nose is very muted and in the mouth it's sort of nondescript and dilute. There's a sense that this is a quality wine but it's sort of a big nothingburger.
October 10, 2015 - I'm a fan of Nikolaihof, so it is disappointing to encounter a bottle that lacked characteristic Riesling qualities. It needs more acid, finish is short. Maybe it was in a dumb phase.
August 24, 2015 - a mis-treated bottle? this had little bouquet and was watery. not at all its reputation. at this price I'm hesitant to try again. from another source perhaps
November 12, 2014 - The beautiful, expressive nose offers ripe apple, pronounced florality, gunpowder, yeast and just a little bit of some Sauvignon blanc-esque herbal/vegetal nuance. On the palate the wine has a bit of concentration and even more impact but thankfully also really good backbone and lift. The fruit is fairly neutral in style - though one can easily picture some apple and lemon action - appearing even somewhat similar to a good village level Chablis. Bone dry but with a fine, firm yet fleshy texture, finishing in a deliciously tart, palate-cleansing fashion. Very minerally and savoury - mouth-puckering even! Very pure and authentic, just the kind of a wine that makes me ask myself why there is so little Austrian whites in my wine fridge. At 20 € this wine delivers effortlessly; I honestly can't remember when was the last time I enjoyed a dry Riesling this much.
Day2: Not much has changed overnight, but nevertheless the wine is at least as good as before. Alas, this one is not going to go away for a long time. Simply captivating, extremely food-friendly, incredibly well rounded and complete. Grips the palate in a way very few wines do.
August 17, 2014 - Light yellow-white in the glass; pineapple fruit-nuance and minerals on the nose.
Brisk acidity, very refreshing, subtle and elegant on a light-bodied frame. Unfortunately the last glass from my last bottle, which I opened yesterday, but this is eminently drinkable right now.
