December 25, 2014 - Christmas lunch drink pairing with cote du boeuf. Really like the aged bordeaux style that the tenine soften to a creamy feeling on the palate. Got it discounted in retail, worth every penny. It is mild, easy going, slightly sweet after decanting.

May 8, 2014 - We must be mindful that this property is never going to be one of the greatest. That said, the 2003 is a very pleasing and complete nicely integrated wine that is very charming. Was very happy with the initial nose (with only about half an hour decanting before drinking) offering hints of chocolate, menthol and spicey herbaceousness. Colour has a good orange rim. On palate, good grip from the soft rounded tannins that holds the ripe currant and creamy plum with a lick of soft cedar mid palate to give a subtle and pleasing length. It would seem that this wine is now perfect for drinking at this time.

November 21, 2013 - Restaurant purchase, so paid too much. But it was very good. Decanting opened it up, it probably still has a bit of life left. The cab dominates the blend at the end of the bottle, which isn't a bad thing. It needed fat, butter, pâté or meat. Very good wine

August 6, 2013 - Damned good thing this was really very good, as I am now seeing here that I paid 6 to 7 times retail at the restaurant. We need something big to follow a '98 Pegau, and I thought an '03 would be fruity and ripe, and in fact, this was. It was also very well balanced and had enough complexity and character that I wasn't sorry that I paid $96 for it! I will have some words about pricing with the somm on my next visit, tho. 92-93

December 2008 (link)(Château Fourcas-Hosten, Listrac-Médoc) As students at California’s Professional Culinary Institute will attest, I can lecture on Bordeaux, but its inflated prices and egos leave me cold. When a big name offers good quality at a fair price, it deserves mention. This Fourcas-Hosten has the black-cherry and cola aromas typical of many Médoc reds in heavier soils. What makes it stand out are its mostly resolved tannins, contributing to the supple, medium body, with still-chunky fruit typical of the vintage. Moderate acidity keeps it fresh through the comfortingly warm, reasonably long finish. Ready for the table now, it would make a great winter by-the-glass pour. Hot Picks
