December 30, 2023 - Everyone called this a Nebiollo but I stubbornly went down the path of.. a Super Tuscan. 20 years?

Turns out its a Barbaresco from the legendary Pio Cesare, and only a 2009 vintage.

In hindsight, a classic Barbaresco with such ripeness and concentration. Even more so after 1 hour.. I then realised 2009 was a very warm vintage.

Despite the weather, this comes across as being well balanced with cherry notes on the palate. Sweet and grippy tannins, still some structure.

Acidity M+. LN's bottle. Pre NY eve dinner.

November 10, 2023 - Good grip on tannins. Mix of anise, blackberries and forest floor. Good blend of primary and tertiary. Great qpr

October 22, 2021 - As TERRY J noted, this is hitting on all cylinders; patience is important with many of these Piedmont Nebbiolo’s, regardless of DOCG. At twelve years, this is very much in development. Wild red fruits are very noticeable, but structure provides a framework for additional cellaring. Decanted and paired with spinach and cheese cannelloni; good, but the wine was a bit much for the pasta (my fault). Drink now, with decanting and hearty food (veal Marsala or chicken piccata); additional cellaring will only reward. Drink through 2029.

June 15, 2021 - If you are still hanging on to this wine in 2021 and have stored it well, my congratulations: you have a jewel. Nebbiolo at its best can show this perfume: an ethereal mix of violets and anise. Just couldn't get enough of the bouquet. Palate was excellent, if overshadowed by the profound bouquet. Should last a long time, but I can't see it getting better. Share with your best friends.
