June 3, 2019 - Massor av honung på näsan. Mörk i färgen, kändes som en mogen champagne från ett varmt år (1989?). Udda men bra.

April 23, 2019 - Just don't get Selosse. The nose and fruit had too much oxidation that just muddies the wine for me. Far prefer Bubbles that let the purity shine without the heaviness of oxidation.

April 23, 2019 - Dinner at Nico Osteria: I didn't like this as much as others at the table - I thought this was very good, but much more oxidative than I prefer. Caramel, butterscotch, and nutty flavours accenting baked apple and lightly toasty/bready notes on the palate - there's still freshness to the fruit and it freshens up further with air, but I find the oxidative notes here overwhelming. An impressive wine with lots of power and length, but just not my style.

April 23, 2019 - Dinner at Nico Osteria (Chicago, IL): Disgorged February 23, 2012. After the disappointing showing of this wine at the Selosse dinner I resolved to open one of my own (purchased on release) to double check. I wasn't thrilled with this wine when it was first opened -- it showed the usual heavy oxidation, with a slight almost-caramel note, but also the requisite acidity on the palate. But when I revisited this at the end of the night -- what a difference! It was much brighter, the fruit was more yellow and white instead of browned, and the acidity actually tasted fresher. So I'm not yet fully convinced I ought to send the rest of mine off to market (especially given the price escalation here), but I am fully convinced that this is a wine that needs a serious decant.

April 2, 2019 - Comprehensive Selosse (Chicago, IL): I'm not sure that this bottle was perfectly sound; the colour was clearly darker than its younger siblings, and to be perfectly honest, this didn't taste anywhere as intense and fresh as I remember it (my last note on this was around five years ago). A concerning touch of caramel on the palate here -- while there are acids, there isn't that liveliness that I want. It's a bit nutty and browned, and while it's certainly drinkable (and if I'm to be honest, quite enjoyable), I remember clearly how much I loved this wine, and this wasn't it.

(Jacques Selosse Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Millésimé) Light golden color with steady, tiny bubbles; appealing, oxidative, melted butter, croissant, tarte tatin, almond nose; tasty, creamy textured, almond, mineral, sweet butter palate; very long finish (from 2 parcels planted in 1975 on average 12% gradient, up to 59%) 94+ points
