May 16, 2021 - This is an exceptional offering from Rodney Strong.- Even though it is declared a "reserve", it drinks and tastes like a very good regular bottling from RS. I give it 92 points based on it's structure, taste, complexity, exceptional chewy mouth feel and finish. It's just a really good cabernet from Sonoma.
August 5, 2016 - Nicely rich and complex. Enjoy.
July 26, 2015 - Long, dark, and brooding, this has the gift of time. Purple garnet color. Intense aromas of black currants, bright spices, chocolate, and walnut shell segue into a youthful, rich, and full-bodied wine. It hides its high alcohol well but needs at least an hour to soften in the glass. Decant. 90+
June 25, 2015 - Popped and poured; could've used an hour decant time and might have scored higher. Cork crumbled upon opening, but no sediment was present. Probably has a few years left.
January 2, 2015 - A lot of alcohol at the finish. Not much fruit. Needed overnight to open up.
November 1, 2014 - Excellent immediately and even better after open for 30 minutes.
Drank alongside a '55 Chateau Margaux (yes 1955). Both great wines in their own design, but the Rodney is a huge value.
May 18, 2014 - Very nice at $32. Higher priced than our typical bottle but good enough that we went back and bought half a case.Wine needs to be decanted a couple hours before drinking.
December 8, 2013 - .
November 12, 2013 - Excellent cab with a steak. A bit of a cherry taste.
October 31, 2013 - Needs a good decant. Very young wine.
