February 4, 2024 - Intense struck match, lemon, savory, smells almost exactly like the younger versions (2018, 2019) of this wine, just a tad less aggressive. But crazy freshness still. Only on the palate it shows some maturity, the texture is rounder, softer, everything is more integrated and smoother. But so fresh and intense still with bright lemon on the finish. It's as always a great wine and this vintage is drinking just beautiful now. But truth be told I think there is even more to be seen in 5+ years. 17.5+/20
February 4, 2024 - nose:
January 25, 2024 - It gave me new experience. i thought, 'what the f. Is this old vintage sauvignon blanc?!"
November 24, 2023 - Nose: Sesami, Oak, Margarine, Flint
Palate: Oak, Torched Lemon
Tasted directly without breeding. Good complexity, with a main taste close to lemony citrus, minimal acidity, and a dense sensation. It evokes a slightly oaked Chablis.
October 24, 2023 - Gunsmoke on the nose immediately suggests this Kiwi SavvyB is barrel-fermented rather than tank. Palate starts off sweet and tangy passionfruit, doesn't have the grassiness or intense gooseberry/cat pee character of a lot of Kiwi Sauv Blanc. Moves towards ripe citrus, preserved lemon and mandarin, with some sweet vanilla and ginger spice notes. 14% abv gives a big mouthfeel but is not noticeably hot. Really good.
May 16, 2023 - Dog point was obviously a good one, considering its price. This bottle aged well and delivered the performance as expected. But this white wine had its limit, this was not a old-world blanc.
December 28, 2018 - Much better than my last bottle. Still hugely reductive and a nose that is dominated by gunsmoke, even after triple-decanting. But intriguing lemon fruit, olives, and super-concentration, just about cuts through the nose.
November 9, 2018 - Very Good, but challenging to rate.
Clear, pale lemon with legs.
Clean, developing, pronounced herbaceous nose of green capsicum, buttered popcorn, yeasty bread, lime and seaweed.
Dry, medium acid, medium (+) alcohol (14% - but it holds it well). Medium (+) body, medium (+) intensity lemon, lemongrass, vanillin oak and ginger. Medium (+) length.
Very good, certainly for a fume blanc style, oak so well integrated, but still confused about how this knits together. Truly stumped by the aging potential of this wine, it could improve, but I worry about the primary fruit.
Cork.
August 16, 2018 - Tons of sulphur and flint on the nose. Sulphur is almost off putting but not quite and is very persistent even on day two. Good acidity with a rounded mouthfeel. Very interesting and very moreish in an oddly intriguing way. Day two was very different - some sherry notes but also more sweetness coming through.
