November 24, 2022 - From magnum... I still would wait a few years, although it can be consumed now with ample slow oxing.

February 23, 2021 - Popped this in honor of La Festa del Piemonte a few weeks ago. A true wow wine and an example of why I love this hobby - the insatiable, neverending quest to learn more. My first Nebbiolo Rose. Purchased as a library wine via WD, this is still young and only beginning to show secondary characteristics. Beautiful aromatics of dark cherry, licorice, roses, cinnamon, and some forest floor. The palate is intense, concentrated, and layered with moderate, fine tannins. Roses, ripe dark red cherries, tar, leather, and some black tea. So fantastic and probably five years from peak.

February 18, 2020 - Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow" #046: Barolo (By PS): Quite brownish color. In the mature bouquet earth, autumn forest and licorice.. On the palate earth and leather, chocolate, coffee, licorice and laurel. Good acidity and still sticky tannin. Although quite mature, the tannin is not tired yet. Hard to score, but 90 for the complexity seems to be about correct for me.

August 2, 2019 - The 2004 Cogno Vigna Elena Barolo is a typical modern styled Barolo, uber-concentrated and probably aged in 100% new oak, in one word - heavy. A fresh bunch of black berries, cassis, vanilla and clove spices, minty liquorice with mild black truffles. A well-made wine on the book but not my style of wine. (86/100)
