Community Tasting Notes 8

April 16, 2022 - Just about a year has passed since my last note. The cork came out with very little resistance. Full yellow colour. Ginger-themed exotic nose to begin on a background of possibly cantaloupe melon (not peach), then a little apricot (like the 2007 noted recently), followed with some lanolin. The very refreshing palate has proper kabinett weight and is brisk, with a tiny bit of spritzig. The residual sugars have changed their structure and at no point is any obvious sweetness tasted - it's more feinherb in that sense than classical young kabinett, and the intense, vibrant finish is dry. The first few sips signalled the acidity of the vintage, but that wasn't something which occupied the mind later. No musky, gewurz-like characters today. Fine kabi.

May 9, 2021 - Full yellow colour. The nose is so explosive that it would be very hard to mistake this as anything else from my cellar. It doesn't take me to an orchard. Instead, it sends me to Asia, with spices, nuts and exotic fruits. Ginger mixes with musk, leaning to the gewurztraminer-end of the spectrum. The palate is still very fesh and showing some spritzig. The flavour is that of ripening yellow-skinned tropical fruit, yet the finish is attractively saline. The length is good. Proper energized kabinett, though perhaps I'm being a little harsh by saying the note of musk is what makes me on this occasion limit this bottle to only a very good plus rating.

October 17, 2019 - About a year since my last bottle, and this one is flat out magical. It is perfect. A combination of burnished tree fruit, lemon cream, nutmeg spice, ginger and any number of other essences, it has endless layers of complexity. This does not do it any kind of justice. No words can do that.

    Mind blown.

July 3, 2018 - Pop, pour, enjoy. This is in a good place right now, mingling fresh fruit, honey, forest floor and a bracing acidic backbone. The moderate front end sweetness is well balanced by the acids, and the finish is long, fruity, and ultimately dry. Perfect time to drink this.

February 8, 2013 - As with my last note, the cork came out with too little resistance. A strong yellow colour. The nose began by leaning to the gewurztraminer-end of the spectrum, reminding me of the producer's Wlitinger Gotesfuss Riesling Kabinett Feinherb in the same vintage. But then the nose showed up mango, peach, cream, minor wax, ginger and minerals. The first taste is of mango and papaya, topped with lemon juice. With a lot of the residual sugar now transformed, this tastes more like a feinherb styled riesling. A pungent, dried apricot aftertaste. Plenty of spritzig here - it was still pricking the tongue on the 3rd day! Fine and drinking beautifully.
