October 4, 2020 - Not the kind of 2010 I was hoping for. Started flat and expected to open up but never did even after a 2 hour decant. I liked it but didn't;t have the depth I was expecting from this vintage.

September 28, 2020 - still too young, good wine but I would hold with the expectation it could be much better.

June 27, 2020 - Still an infant, muscular, yet still maintains its elegance. I love the meaty quality of this wine, with an abundance of lifted cherry fruit. Lengthy finish with clear and moderately deep ruby color. Fresh fruit and stony aromas.

May 13, 2020 - Tasted twice in recent months, once by Coravin pour, then opening the bottle and enjoying it over two days, alongside the same vintage La Dame de Montrose.

In a word: opulent. Still showing its youth, minimal bricking and surprising baby fat, particularly in the form of still integrating oak.

The wine features exquisitely fresh and remarkably concentrated red, purple, and blackberry flavors, all somewhat liqueur-like. Pronounced Cabernet Sauvignon constitutes the structure and core, elegantly wrapped in velour-like Merlot. The whole package!

All this considered, though young now, the wine imparted the impression that it will peak sooner than other Classed Growths from the same vintage, as the acid sits a skosh above medium. Likely to enter a middle drinking window by 2028-2030.

(Chateau Branaire-Ducru (St Julien)) The blend here is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23.5% Merlot, 4.5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, the alcohol 13.8% and the pH 3.53. A glossy-looking wine here. Quite vibrant and crunchy fruit on the nose. The palate is quite soft and broad though, and shows some lovely sweet fruit, and it is quite structured beneath, the different elements sitting together quite harmoniously. Good acidity too. Overall it ends up with quite a fresh and juicy feel, but with some nice vigour to it as well. Some appealing fruit complexities here. Good potential.

(Château Branaire-Ducru (St Julien)) Lots of dark fruits here, the oak showing a more nutty tone. The fruit seems well honed from the start through into the middle of the wine, with well polished tannins giving some bite and substance to the wine, nicely matched by the lightly perfumed fruit and appropriate acidity. An attractive wine with all the components nicely put together here, showing very well now, and destined to do really good things in the cellar.
