Community Tasting Notes 22

April 20, 2017 - I preferred this closer to release but this bottle was still hanging in there pretty well. Sour cherry fruit and some secondary flavors developing but it doesn't compare to the complex, youthful exuberance of this wine.

April 20, 2016 - I do not know if the fruit has been broader when younger, then this is my first time with this wine, even the producer. I do not even know Mencia more than from a couple of times. At this stage the wine is very focused, quite nicely structured and very long with persistent sour-bitter finish. Medium body built around red fruit acidity. Deep smokey nose with animal tones (fur), coffee, tobacco, heat. Some whiffs of acetone that disappear quickly. Definitely worth a try.

December 5, 2015 - At first (at pnp) restrained, almost reductive. Over time nose develops with garlic, roses, salami, lavender, salt and black currant jelly. On the palate black pepper, lower sugar than expected, medium tannins but some harsh acidity, composed fruit. Tasty, though quite heavy.

April 22, 2015 - Deliciously perfumed. has red berry and a skinsy feel in the mouth. Elegant and airy but with depth. Quite delightful.

March 20, 2015 - Straight from bottle it feeled like a Rioja. But just after 15 min of air this gets more Burgundian. A juicy palate with ripe cherries, strawberries and floral notes. This is suprisingly fresh and elegant. Gets more and more elegant with air. After 4 hours the fruit has turned darker. Quite fresh and good acidity. Mushroom turns up on the finnish.
