May 19, 2014 - My weakness in Northwest reds is huge, deep, dark, resonant Cabs and Bordeaux blends that are not inflected with Syrah and have some classic balance but are not jammy in style. This wine is a dark garnet color with deep flavors and a nearly full body. The winery explains that it's 73% Cabernet Franc and 27% Malbec. Amazing. I tasted dark fruit, specifically sweet blackberries. The blackberry flavor was more intense than anything I have had since I enjoyed the huge, exceptionally sweet and luscious late-summer blackberries from the Applegate in southwest Oregon. There are no unresolved tannins but with 14.8% alcohol and good fruit and acid balance, this wine is not going to shuffle off just yet. I was amazed at the delicious, juicy quality. This is not a highly complex wine but it has such a terrific combination of smoothness, resonance, balance and flavor that I immediately bought a bottle and promptly grilled some lamb to go with it. I am lusting in my heart after this wine. I would have paid more than the $26 or so I got it for.
