Community Tasting Notes 6

November 26, 2012 - Lovely lemon-gold colour followed by a complex, deep nose suggesting smoky oak over dried apricots and lime. Steely on palate with bright acidity needing more extract for balance. Rather hollow mid-palate and not particularly long lemony finish. Mineral and salty wine that won't go further. (***+)

November 30, 2011 - Dark lemon bordering on light gold. Exuberant nose that is both oaky with powerful aromas of vanilla, roast almonds, taking on definite honeyed tones as well as ripe citrus fruits such as lemons, limes & grapefruit not forgetting the unmistakable Santorini mentality of sunbaked rocks and sea breezes. The palate is mouthcoatingly full bodied and a mirror of the nose with that tell tale briny minerality and razor sharp acidity balancing the oaky honeyed edge. Endless finish.

December 9, 2010 - Oct. 3rd Genka Wine Fair - Argyros "Estate" & "Barrel" 2005-2009 Vertical: Another great oaked Santorini. Golden colour, medium intensity in the nose, some grassy aromas and subdued minerality. 2007 produced rough wines and the oaked version is rounded than the unoaked with more honeyed flavours, some figs and honey. Sweet fruit and high acidity. Texture is oily and there is a phenolic astringent finish to the wine.

August 9, 2010 - Bright straw-yellow. Very intense toasted oak, citrus fruit and minerality. Mid-full bodied with lively fruit, intense minerality, toast, high acidity and a dash of tanins (from the barrel). Very powerful with a long roast almonds finish but at this stage oak dominates both nose and palate. Interesting wine despite its extremity.

August 9, 2009 - I'd very much like to to taste what these wines evolve into, as I think there would be many dimensions that would develop. Nevertheless at this age it is a wonderful and delicious wine.
