February 17, 2023 - Great bottle. Colour still very fresh looking red still with hints of purple rather than any browning.

Very black flavour profile with blackberries and licorice and some cooling herbal menthol/eucalypt.

October 20, 2020 - Picking up from where the April note ended… this bottle revealed sharply that it may have been a venerable old grandee in April but a great old bottle it was not. By contrast, this time the wine showed as expected with the reputation of Wendouree and the 1998 vintage’.

Red brick rim, still deep dark core. A fresh nose, radiating blackberry, blueberry, gum and then trademark iron and coal dust.

The finest palate of the Shiraz Malbec trio (a still fresh 1991 and good but touch hot 2008) tasted on my birthday with a close Komrade (who supplied a superb bottle of Egly Ouriet Brut Traditional). Fresh, deeply flavoured with great line and length. Smooth, almost powdery tannin and saline acidity on the finish. In a word, vibrant. A long reign lies ahead - provided it’s a sound bottle.
