Community Tasting Notes 8

May 9, 2017 - Full disclosure- I visited this winery in 2007 and was completely taken by Patti's spare operation. I loved the lack of pretension and commitment to making great wines.

Like others the cork broke upon opening. Though decanting through a coffee filter was not such a drag in light of the considerable sediment. The color was tending to garnet with some brick on the rim. The perfume on the nose was pretty; some of the bright red fruit receded but in its place were stewed fruit notes and casis. The palate was well integrated still with acid, alcohol and tannin in balance. I don't believe this wine is getting much better but unlike others I am not scrambling to drink the rest of my holding.

October 16, 2016 - Like my previous bottle back in 2014, and as others have noted, the cork totally disintegrated upon opening, thus causing me to strain the wine into a decanter. Clear signs of bricking in the decanter. Unfortunately, this wine seems to have started the downward decline. What little red fruit still exists is overtaken by green celery, over cooked meat, and wood pulp. Somewhat thin in the mouth with both acidity and tannins waning quickly.

This came from Garagiste; however, I have some serious questions and concerns as to where this wine came from given all the reports of inadequate corks....I had two bad corks in two bottle purchased.

January 5, 2016 - Cork crumbled on removal. So much for the "finest provenance available". However, the wine seemed unaffected.

September 3, 2015 - Full disclosure, I'm not a Malbec fan. With the word assemblage I was hoping it would be more integrated with other notes. Nope, tastes like muddied up Malbec to me

August 30, 2015 - Glad to learn that the first bottle I tried some months ago really was corked and not just a terrible wine. This second bottle was very nice. Tasted notably older than its 11 years and the cork fell apart, both of which would suggest this should not be held too much longer.
