September 6, 2019 - Substantial, zaftig, cabernet-dominant claret in late primary phase. Somewhat monolithic upon opening, gentle oxidation over 72 hours makes it more congenial.

August 18, 2019 - PnP. Drank immediately after 2005 d'Armailhac, which was very nice. Ch. B. Ducru somewhat tart right out of the bottle, but settled in after an hour and even better the next day. Tannins need a bit more cellaring to settle in. Nose very nice with compote and hint of anise. Some promise in the future, will wait on the others i have for few years.

July 11, 2019 - Outstanding bordeaux...should drink well for years to come

July 9, 2019 - This bottle was more complex and integrated and longer on the palate than the 7/26/18 bottle.

    October 2010 (link) (16.5-17+) points

(Chateau Branaire-Ducru (St Julien)) Dark, warm and slightly woody fruit here, rather tightly closed rather than evocative at first, although returning to it later did reveal a greater depth of more polished fruit. Moderate weight on entry at best, a lighter style through the midpalate where it is a little woody and the tannins come to dominate in the midpalate. Like Saint-Pierre, rather more grippy and structured than the fruit can handle at present. Dark and sooty. A vin de garde which will require long cellaring.

(Chateau Branaire-Ducru St Julien) Highly perfumed and aromatic fruit, almost exotic in character, with plenty of sweet cherry. The palate is pure and supple, glossy but gently mineral on the midpalate. Very nicely balanced, with good, ripe, nicely polished tannins. It finished very nicely too. This is really exciting wine.

(Château Branaire-Ducru (St Julien)) Attractive if rather low-key fruit character here, with nutty-oak elements more prominent than the fruit at present. There is some real substance on the palate, gentle and harmonious in style, although the structure does have more prominence than the weight of fruit seems able to cope with at present. There is grip and tannins aplenty, giving the wine plenty of palate-coating substance, but the substance and texture of the wine lags behind for the moment. Nevertheless, there is potential here.

    November 2012 (link) 16.5 points

(Château Branaire-Ducru (St Julien)) Some charming and confident aromatics here, with scents of well-defined red fruits with some lightly applied oak. The palate starts off rather soft and supple, perhaps even a little low key, but there is an elegant composure to it; there is a delicate red fruit character which appeals, and the tannins seem appropriate for this character. An elegant and composed wine which should come together nicely given time.
