January 6, 2021 - Notes after 2 hours in decanter. The cork was 90% saturated, the color was a pale brownish-ruby with small bits of sediment. Medium-high intensity nose with a nice floral backdrop, though it gets overridden by some funk and oak early on. The palate features more cherry and pomegranate, but is a little bit of a letdown in persistence and tension and I have to agree with the other “dilute” remarks. Not bad on its own or with lighter fare.
Considering the compromised closure, this bottle’s best days may have been long ago. Happy to have the cellar space back and I’m glad I sold off my other bottle.
    3+12+14+7= 86

December 4, 2019 - Okay, but somewhat funky. Preferred the 2011.

January 5, 2019 - 2 bottles drunk over Christmas period with very similar notes. Classic gevrey. Dark fruit, plenty of cooked meat and some wood spice. Very open already but a little soft/dilute on the finish.

July 5, 2018 - Maison Ilan @ Medlar: Slightly dull, finely cloudy. A little
Muddy on the nose. A touch of beetroot. A touch natural. Somewhat fuzzy. Wow, very rounded and sweet-fruited and open on the palate. ***1/2

January 13, 2016 - My 3rd different 2012 M.Ilan wine opened in just a few days. Cork is very stained all the way to the top just like my 2 other wines (Volnay & Chaffots). Aromatic, but comes across as sharp cherries, high acidity and some nail polish funk. One might expect a Grand Cru Burgundy to be closed but after my first two other bottles that were bad I was willing to try this early to see if the entire lot was bad. I typically DO NOT open Grand Cru this early. With some air time however the wine settles down and the aromatics move towards classic earthy twigs & underbrush. While the aromatics open up quickly the finish is still very tart and unripe (but not closed or muted). This may very well end up a nicely aromatic red but I am not certain that the palate will be as well represented.

Day 2: Dump down the drain...
