Community Tasting Notes 16

  • For The Love of Loosen Likes this wine: 91 points

November 22, 2021 - Upon opening, Peter Althaus’ deft hand is immediately evident. Cassis, lifted acid, fine tannins and subtle oak. It’s the same classic story, told in a slightly different way. Peter’s early drinking style is looking great, now more than a decade later. 14% ABV. The Diam cork soaked almost to the end would suggest now is the ideal time to drink. 91+ points.

August 7, 2021 - Drank this with roast lamb. Still some soft fruit there. Very nice. Possibly on a downward trajectory but a lovely drop.

November 8, 2020 - My last bottle and even more enjoyable than the previous. Fully mature now. Further to my previous note 3-4 years ago, tertiary now added to the mix. Some sweet tobacco and leather coming through. The a-typical Domaine A leafy/herbal streak is there, and I love it, though I dare say a good number of people wouldn’t. To each their own.

December 14, 2019 - Long decant, interesting wine. 5hrs in, still never really opened up but you just know something is lurking. No real primary or tertiary elements, drying tannins, think I’ve gone too soon. Hold another 2 years try then.

April 1, 2018 - {diam, 14%} Rather similar to last year's bottle. Ripe but twiggy and a touch herbal. Soft dusty tannins. Medium weight. Perhaps a hint of tobacco too. Decent palate coverage. Perhaps a little anonymous. Very very drinkable and probably at peak, although will hold a while. Lacks the concentration of the flagship bottling.
