November 3, 2023 - Brick red. Like an old soft Aussie Burgundy of yesteryear. Soft structure. Nothing like the normal Penfolds house style, indeed where is the oak? Probably astute winemaking in a difficult wet vintage.
14%, cork.
May 20, 2023 - I put a few bottles of this Australian red blend in my cellar years ago. It has matured wonderfully into an excellent full bodied wine with rich fruit and well integrated tannins. We enjoyed it with barbecued tenderloin steak, roasted red potatoes, and tossed green salad with vinaigrette dressing (following the classic French recipe of olive oil, light wine vinegar, minced garlic and shallots, combined with Dijon mustard from France).
March 28, 2020 - Past its time. Drank on 3/28/20
May 5, 2019 - Soft as it was approaching the end of drinking span
August 24, 2018 - They say bin 389 is "baby grange", so that would make bin 8 baby bin 389. I enjoyed it though... its been over a year since a tasting note has been posted, and I think the tannins and oak have had some time to integrate. Drink up! I would buy again
January 16, 2017 - Very pleasant, some sweetness, southern wine. I like the mix of Cab and Syrah.
November 11, 2016 - ok
September 15, 2016 - Dense opacity. Moderately bold and tart. Just enough grip/tannin. Fruit throughout, but not jammy. I believe it has held quite well and improved being late on the drinking curve. Enjoyed this wine with steak and pasta.
June 16, 2016 - Cassis, plums, black pepper, bitter chocolate, alcohol feel, slightly fervent, intense and sufficiently balanced. Cherry, chocolate and spices long finish. Good option for a starter. 89
May 5, 2016 - This was ok, but nothing memorable.
