October 31, 2015 - Chocolate and nut aromas. Sweet, with rather low acidity. Still intense and concentrated, though.

January 11, 2011 - Madeira @ Equinox (Washington DC): Lively, pungent, and mouth-puckering (in a good way). Nose seems a bit subdued. Dominated by citrus and the slightest hint of brown autumnal spices. Falls off slightly in the middle, but a whiplash of flavors return on the finish. Edgey lemon/lime citrus squirt acidity. Ethereal, elegant and bright. I like this quite a bit. A much better showing comapred to the dozen years that have past since the last time I've had this. Originally purchased by Steve on 10/2004 for $155 (current price $254).

August 17, 2006 - Minty wood-aged nose. Concentrated anise and toffee on the palate but with a tangy, vibrant acidic streak and uplifting VA to keep things fresh. Really nice wine.

July 3, 2001 - Tour and Madeira Tasting at Vinhos Barbeito (Funchal): Similar in style to the 1940 but softer and richer, lower acidity, wonderful rich nutty flavour - tends towards Bual.

October 6, 1999 - Madeira @ Patroon (NYC): Dark caramel brown, with an orange rim. A bit of a muted nose at first, but it eventually came around. A delicate, caramel and coffee flavored wine, with a chewy, tangy finish. Very Good.
