November 28, 2020 - Very good wine. This bottle is deep purple colored with a nose of black currents, barnyard, and saddle. Upon opening, it has a rustic quality with overwhelming youthful tannins and an alcoholic burn. It’s almost brandy like. Initially, this wine tastes of blackberries and wet hay/stable. After decanting and a long rest in my glass, it became more drinkable and it’s black and red fruit started to layer out. As the wine’s earthiness and alcohol evaporated and dissipated, it’s oak softened to a faint vanilla and subtle flavors of thyme and pepper appeared. I can understand how others may be turned off by this wine; it really requires cellaring and a long decant. I think that it’s just entering its drinking window now, and has at least 5 years left.

[According to Ken’s Wine Guide, Cepage is the French term that denotes the percentage of each variety of grapes in the composition of a blended wine. For instance, if a red wine is 60% Cabernet and 40% Merlot, the cepage is said to be 60-40. ] This wine is 100 % Mourvèdre.

  • David Strange Does not like this wine:

February 3, 2013 - It smelled like a dead-persons airing cupboard and tasted like particularly unpleasant paint stripper. This is one of the most disgusting wines I've had in ages.
