September 12, 2021 - Decanted just to warm a bit and separate sediment, but air is not needed at this point. I think this wine may have been better 4-5 years ago as it still had rich fruit (more than I expected for the cool 2001 vintage), but the tannins have gotten quite soft and, at this point, do not provide the level of structure I would prefer. Despite the softness, it still provides a very pleasant tasting experience of rich dark fruit with some depth.

August 10, 2019 - I get a lot of rosemary this time. A hint of nail polish remover. Still sweet and port like. Drink now.

July 13, 2019 - Strong dark fruit aroma when first open, black currant, prune. Light tannin, light acidity. Slight waft of mint on the nose. Inky. Smooth. Lingering finish. A little sweet for my taste. Unmistakeable Napa cabernet.

February 23, 2019 - Consistent with my note from December. Score is right between 91-92. This time I rounded down, but maybe unfairly.

December 28, 2018 - Fragrant cedar, graphite, and cherry nose. Nice tannic grip, with cherry and oak notes.

This is in a nice spot. I suggest drinking with about an hour of air since it starts to shut down a bit when it hits 2 hours. 2001 is a strange vintage that way. Will likely hold for 2-3 years, but I’m not sure it will improve.

August 27, 2018 - A sweet, deep, nearly impervious, polished sphere of smokey blackberry and sweet, ripe currant. Gravel. Ink and distant tar. An incredible orb but for whom.

No end of plateau in sight.
